I’ve been um’ing and ah’ing over the last week, trying to decide if I should buy another UPS to replace the broken one that used to power the PC and Unix server in my office. I came to the conclusion that I’d live without it and then, you’ll never guess… I’ve just had a power-cut!

Power to the whole house went out for about a minute. One good thing has come out of it; the digital cooker clock didn’t come back on after the last power cut about 18 months ago but now it’s working again. On the flip side, my datastore isn’t mounting on my Unix box. Hmmm…

So now I’m reconsidering my choice of managing without backup UPS power.
