Rocket recall

Last month I had a letter off Triumph telling me that I needed to get a new mapping loaded onto my Rocket because of a potential issue with the bike stalling as the engine returns to idle. It's not a problem I've seen since I first bought the bike. That may have had something to do with the TuneBoy tune that I'd blown over the top.. anyway I digress..

So the bike's now popping and farting like it used to before the TuneBoy tune was applyed. At some point over the next couple of weeks I'll put my old map back on which will mean that this whole exercise was just to get a tick in a box. Why did I go to the trouble? The recall is being monitored by the government's Vehicle Operator Service Agency so I didn't want a black mark against the bike to effect re-sale value in the future.

One good think that's come out of all of this is that I've found a new Triumph dealer. I've not been overly impressed with the service that I get at Haslemere Motorcycles where I bought the bike from. They've let me down once or twice and haven't once left me feeling completely satisfied so I've been sounding out other dealers. Haslemere is the closest. Next is Jack Lilley's at the top of the M3. I went there a couple of months ago for a nose and didn't see it at its best as they were just finishing off a refit. I would have taken the Rocket there for the remapping if I hadn't noticed 'Triumph Reading' on the list of dealers that accompanied the recall notice. I didn't know that a new Triumph dealer had opened in Twyford last April. I gave them a call a couple of weeks ago about booking the bike in and had a refreshing reply of "it's only a five minute job. Pop the bike in when you're passing". So that's what I did today. Had a free cup of coffee whilst I was waiting and after being invited to join their RAT group I was away.

Bulldog aren't on the Pocket GPS World Triumph dealer POI. I saved the co-ordinates on my Garmin so I'll have to get them off and work out how to add a POI to the existing list..

Beetle Bags

I picked up the beetle bags from Dream Machine last week. With some help from Steve I fitted them on Monday evening. The bike's a bit wider now so I'm going to have to be caredful when filtering. They look awesome and were well worth the trouble that it took to get them done.

Beetle Bag Update

I've just spoken to Daz at Dream Machines. Dream Machines warranty all of their work and therefore they will only use someone else's primer as a base, flatting and applying their own primer before they start applying topcoats. The primer that they've been putting on has been 'pinholing' which is very unusual with a Corbin product. Daz was telling me that Dream Machines have sprayed a lot of Corbin products in the past and are usually very impressed with the finish.

The areas that are pinholing have to be flatted back and a skim of filler put on before reapplying the primer. So at the moment the bags are still in primer and it's going to be another couple of weeks before they are finished.

R6 Solo Seat Cowl

Glad I didn't leave the solo seat on the R6. Looking on eBay there's one that is currently at £65.00 with a day and a bit to go.

That's made me feel a bit better!

Sold the R6

I finally sold the R6 this morning. In the end I sold it to a local garage who gave me top book for it. It's not as much as I wanted but involved considerably less hassle than advertising/ebaying the bike.

I took a couple of bits off it before I sold it though. I've got a screen and a seat cowl to sell on eBay. They should go easily enough.
