Got a problem with my Sky+ box. The boxes have two receivers so that you can record one thing while you watch another, or record two things at the same time. The second input isn’t working so I ring Sky and ask them how I can fix it. ‘The warranty ran out on your Sky box in April 2003’ I’m told. ‘Warranty?!! Surely you come out and fix the box if it’s faulty otherwise I’m not going to be able to receive any channels and I’ll stop paying you money.’
Crazy! So it’s going to cost me £65.00 for the engineer to call. It’s a guaranteed fix; if she can’t fix it she’ll replace it, wiping everything I’ve got recorded and my series links in the process no doubt.
I’m not cynical, I prefer the term ‘realistic’.
